- Support MGSpiller 20:50, 24 October 2006 (UTC) It sounds wrong but yes it is technically correct, perhaps it will grow on us :-) MGSpiller 20:50, 24 October 2006 (UTC)
Oppose
[edit]Oppose Connel MacKenzie 15:24, 19 October 2006 (UTC)Sorry, but I am all for reducing the number of third level headings we condone. I'm not interested in switching to harder-to-remember heading names (that other dictionaries don't seem to use, either?) --Connel MacKenzie 15:24, 19 October 2006 (UTC) (edit) I need to research this a little more. --Connel MacKenzie 17:43, 19 October 2006 (UTC)- Oppose [The]DaveRoss 20:19, 23 October 2006 (UTC) I prefer the present scheme...seems more natural to call them ordinal and cardinal numbers to me.
- Oppose Robert Ullmann 07:55, 30 November 2006 (UTC) should be Number with def line tags. "Cardinal numeral" sounds wrong because it is wrong.
- Oppose Saltmarsh 07:04, 1 December 2006 (UTC) How many Clapham omnibuses would I have to survey before finding someone who called them numerals?
Abstain
[edit]- Abstain DAVilla 13:26, 19 October 2006 (UTC) Either option seems reasonable to me. This might be better if there is confusion with grammatical number, and if I were so convinced then I would change my vote. I would also support "Numeral" by itself.
- Abstain not bothered SemperBlotto 13:36, 19 October 2006 (UTC)
- Abstain Jeffqyzt 16:30, 19 October 2006 (UTC) No strong preference, but as per DAVilla, perhaps just "Numeral" would suffice.
- Abstain --Williamsayers79 07:35, 25 October 2006 (UTC) Either way that this goes could we just have "Number" or "Numeral" without the cardinal/ordinal bit?
- you need templates for your headers... Kipmaster 13:07, 13 November 2006 (UTC)
Comments
[edit]I've changed the capitalization after the first vote. This is the standard and would I hope the change isn't controversial. Also, for clarity it's not certain that Ordinal number is even standard yet, as I understand it, but regardless this would solidify that. DAVilla 13:31, 19 October 2006 (UTC)
Decision
[edit]- Looks like weak support against weak opposition. The possibility of using Numeral alone as a part of speech should be explored. For now, let's go with using Cardinal numeral and Ordinal numeral in template forms, with the possibility the templates may be modified later to merely produce Numeral in the section header. --EncycloPetey 23:02, 13 November 2006 (UTC)
- How do you arrive at that conclusion? Many more people chose not to support this activity (of the people that participated in commenting above.) Clearly, that is not "consensus" to make a wholesale change. The only result of this vote that I see, is a weak confirmation of the existing policy of using "number" in our numeric headings. --Connel MacKenzie 08:40, 16 November 2006 (UTC)
- How do statements like "either option", "no preference", and "not bothered" confirm existing policy? Please note also that this is not the discussion page for this topic. (see link above) --EncycloPetey 19:16, 16 November 2006 (UTC)
- By not advocating the wholesale change! Indeed, I belive you should check the ongoing "real" discussion on WT:BP. --Connel MacKenzie 19:29, 16 November 2006 (UTC)
