- I hereby request the Bot flag for User:McBot. I've recently been using the python wikipediabot (specifically, replace.py) on my main account to do a lot of substitution work. This was very useful for cleaning Wikipedia artifacts, like stub tags, from the Transwiki namespace, and for substituting obsoleted templates so they can be deleted, like WT:RFDO#Template:wikipediacat, WT:RFDO#Template:wikipediamulti, WT:RFDO#Template:wikipediaabbr, WT:RFDO#Template:wikipedia2, WT:RFDO#Template:wikipedia1, WT:RFDO#Template:wikipediapl, and WT:RFDO#Template:wikipediadab. See this recent bot run for an example. I think it is time to get a bot flag, to reduce the distraction mass edits from my main account cause. Thanks! Dmcdevit·t 16:53, 28 June 2007 (UTC)

Support
[edit]- Support DAVilla 12:26, 1 July 2007 (UTC) Especially given the limited purpose. Won't affect me but the user is clearly trustworthy.

- Support Connel MacKenzie 07:54, 4 July 2007 (UTC) This user can be trusted to garner support before running a bot-change, and likewise, deciding which cases truly need additional discussion (i.e. is there even a hint of controversy.) This matches the practice of auto-marking rather well. --Connel MacKenzie 07:54, 4 July 2007 (UTC)

[edit]Abstain
[edit]Image:Symbol abstain vote.svg AbstainConnel MacKenzie 17:04, 28 June 2007 (UTC) I think that general-purpose bots that don't have specific recurring tasks are better left without the bot flag...e.g. User:Connel MacKenzieBot. Better to just have them marked as patrolled but still listed (relatively) transparently. --Connel MacKenzie 17:04, 28 June 2007 (UTC)- To be clear, those are the only two purposes I'm interested in right now: cleaning out Wikipedia templates, categories, and other artifacts from Transwiki:, and orphaning obsoleted templates. (If something else comes up, I can raise the issue for discussion before starting.) Dmcdevit·t 22:43, 28 June 2007 (UTC)
