Wiktionary:Todo/Lists/Entries with missing headword lines/description
Description
[edit]This list contains pages that appear to have a faulty, if not completely missing, headword line in one of their sections. Mostly, this is because the {{head}}
template (or applicable language-specific headword-line template) is missing or has the wrong language code.
Technically speaking, the list is generated in two phases.
In the first phase, the script fetches a list of pages which are not in any "LANG lemmas", "LANG non-lemma forms", "LANG alternative forms" and "LANG entries that don't exist" categories and also do not transclude Module:headword. These pages are identified as having no headword line at all.
In the second phase, the script:
- calculates the number of distinct languages covered by a page's "LANG lemmas", "LANG non-lemma forms", "LANG alternative forms" and "LANG entries that don't exist" categories,
- checks whether this number is consistent with the Pages with n entries category the page is in, and
- lists the pages where these numbers don't match.
For example, suppose an entry is in the following categories (among others):
- Pages with 5 entries, English lemmas, English non-lemma forms, French entries that don't exist, Franco-Provençal alternative forms, Japanese lemmas, Spanish non-lemma forms
This entry would not appear on the list. However, the following page would be included:
- Pages with 2 entries, English lemmas, English non-lemma forms
There are 2 entries but only 1 language is represented among the relevant categories.
- Exclusions
- Due to significant technical complexity with certain Chinese, Japanese and cuneiform entries, pages that are in Category:Chinese lemmas or transclude one of the CJK cross-reference templates (
{{zh-see}}
,{{ja-see}}
,{{ja-see-kango}}
or{{ja-gv}}
) or the{{cuns}}
template are completely excluded from the list for the time being. - Entries marked for speedy deletion are also left off the list.
- Pages with unrecognised parts of speech supplied to
{{head}}
are also excluded. They may be reincluded in the list at a later time.
Cleanup instructions
[edit]This list is grouped by language. For example, pages in the "Albanian" section on this list probably have a missing or faulty headword line under the "Albanian" level 2 heading. Look for one of the following issues:
- The headword line may be completely absent. Add the
{{head}}
template or a language-specific headword-line template to that section. - The same also applies when an entry's headword line has been hand-coded using bold and italic markup.
- In a few cases, language-specific headword-line templates that are custom-coded (do not internally include
{{head}}
) and fail to include the correct categories will cause a page to show up on this list. Fix the coding of these headword-line templates to use{{head}}
(example).
