Wiktionary:Changing username/Archive 2019
Hello, nice people. Please change my username. Thanks!
Username change. Thanks in advance. --Daniel Carrero (talk) 10:10, 9 April 2019 (UTC)
- Note: 167k edits, I think this has to go through Phabricator. - TheDaveRoss 12:15, 9 April 2019 (UTC)
- I'd refuse it personally, Dave. This guy's already had one name change - more than enough for anybody --I learned some phrases (talk) 12:26, 11 April 2019 (UTC)
- I see. At least for now, I retract my request. I don't require this name change anymore. (I'm striking the section title now.)
- In my defense, I changed my username in 2011 so I was thinking maybe I could change it again because 8 years passed already. But there's no need to worry about it now. --Daniel Carrero (talk) 01:23, 13 May 2019 (UTC)
- @Daniel Carrero: It isn't a timing thing, there are just special considerations for users with large edit counts. I am also not a 'crat, so it is certainly not up to me, I was just pointing out that Wikimedia requires name changes for accounts as active as yours be done by systems people who can keep track of the operation on the server. - TheDaveRoss 01:39, 13 May 2019 (UTC)
- @TheDaveRoss: Alright. When I created this thread, I wasn't aware yet that my name change might have to go through Phabricator, or that it might need to be done by systems people as you said. So thank you for the new information.
- I wonder how many edits I had back then in 2011 when Stephen changed my username for the first time (from "Daniel." to "Daniel Carrero").
- That said, I find it interesting that @I learned some phrases talked about refusing my request. I thought there might be an actual timing thing. As in, I see why we most likely can't change our usernames everyday. But maybe after 8 years I thought I had a chance to change it. (Still, just to repeat again, don't worry as I don't require this username change anymore.) --Daniel Carrero (talk) 13:54, 14 May 2019 (UTC)

I would like to change my username to Tongoria.
Because User:Allahverdi Verdizade and User:Ketiga123 are both my accounts — This unsigned comment was added by Ketiga123 (talk • contribs) at 08:43, 26 June 2019.
- @Ketiga123: Special characters and two nearly identical usernames both go against the username guidelines. --

15:21, 26 June 2019 (UTC)- @Victar: 1. Even though the letter <ə> is not a "special character" (it's part of my name), Wiktionary:Usernames and user pages, does not mention anything about "special characters". It just says [Usernames should be] "using the Latin alphabet if possible." Not "English alphabet", but "Latin alphabet". 2) It says "must not resemble another user's username, or anyone's real name", which it doesn't. It resembles my own. Ketiga123 (talk) 15:37, 26 June 2019 (UTC)
- @Ketiga123: 1. "Should preferably be fairly easy for the typical English-speaker to recognize, remember, and type": ə is not easy to type. 2. I would say "must not resemble another user's username" applies to both those created by the same user or otherwise, but I leave that to the sysops to decide. --

- Would be nice if someone could do it already. Ketiga123 (talk) 17:29, 18 July 2019 (UTC)
- @Ruakh, Chuck Entz, SemperBlotto, EncycloPetey — Well, User:Stephen G. Brown used to do these, but he has been MIA across all wikis, sadly. There's a bit of a backlog of requests accumulating now on this page, but I think they can only be taken care of by a 'crat, so I'll tag some that have been recently active. — Mnemosientje (t · c) 08:48, 30 October 2019 (UTC)
- @Mnemosientje I don't think I have the rights to do this, and I certainly don't know how. It looks like it used to be done by bureaucrats, but it seems to have become a global privilege. I can only speculate that this must have changed with the switch to Universal Login, and that those who had the local privilege at the time were given the option of receiving the global one. Chuck Entz (talk) 13:43, 30 October 2019 (UTC)
- @Chuck Entz, Mnemosientje: That sounds right, Chuck, perhaps we should just change this page to a soft redirect to the meta request page. - TheDaveRoss 13:58, 30 October 2019 (UTC)
- @TheDaveRoss, Chuck Entz, Mnemosientje: Agreed. [[Special:ListGroupRights#bureaucrat]], which lists of the rights of bureaucrats, doesn't include renameuser; and when I visit [[Special:RenameUser]], it tells me that I "do not have permission to rename users". I'll see about updating documentation. —RuakhTALK 04:57, 4 November 2019 (UTC)

Hi, I'd like to change my user name. Its currently Theatre Uncut (talk • contribs), which is the theatre company I wanted to create a page about. Can I change my user name to Jen Foley (talk • contribs), which is the name of our administrator? Apologies I didn't know we shouldn't use our company name while creating a user name.
Thanks. — This unsigned comment was added by 82.36.162.79 (talk).
- You have no contributions as Theatre Uncut (talk • contribs), so just create a new user with the username desired and begin editing. Importantly this is not Wikipedia, so we won't have entries about theatre companies and the like. - TheDaveRoss 12:06, 30 October 2019 (UTC)
I want to change my username from "GoldHerk" to "Goldherk" because I don't like to use H in my username, but h.
