This page covers special considerations for Kankanaey entries and Kankanaey translations of English entries.

Orthography

[edit]

Kankanaey lemmas should generally use Ilocano-based spellings, and by extension Tagalog. The latest orthography of the Komisyon sa Wikang Filipino (KWF) on Kankanaey, titled Ortograpia di Kankanaëy, is available here.

Spellings using the older Spanish-based orthography (usually loanwords from Ilocano) are allowed, but should generally serve as soft redirects to modern forms.

Lemmas

[edit]

In general, lemmas for Kankanaey are generally the same as in Ilocano. Some considerations:

  • Nouns: both bare roots or stems, and derived affixed or compound forms
  • Verbs: affixed infinitive
  • Adjectives: both bare roots and affixed forms derived from noun root
