Wernicke's encephalopathy (uncountable)

  1. (medicine, pathology) The presence of neurological symptoms — classically, ophthalmoplegia, ataxia and confusion — caused by biochemical lesions of the central nervous system after exhaustion of B-vitamin reserves, in particular thiamine.
