German
[edit]Etymology
[edit]From Middle High German wīchwazzer. Analyzable as weihen (“to consecrate”) + Wasser (“water”), though the former component was probably the related Middle High German adjective wīch (“holy, consecrated”). Compare Dutch wijwater.
