[edit]- (Utrecht) Attested as Vreewijk in 1920. Compound of vrede (“peace”) and wijk (“neighbourhood, quarter”). The neighbourhood was named to mark two years of peace after the end of the First World War.
- (Leiden) Attested as Spawijk in 1761. Compound of vrede (“peace”) and wijk (“neighbourhood, quarter”). Named after a former estate which was rechristened Vreewijk around 1850.
- (Rotterdam) Compound of vrede (“peace”) and wijk (“neighbourhood, quarter”).
