[edit]- (De Fryske Marren) First attested as Vierhuysen in 1664. Calque of West Frisian Fjouwerhûs, derived from a compound of fjouwer (“four”) and hûs (“house”). The settlement was probably initially composed of four houses.
- (Leeuwarden) First attested as fyorhustera gued in 1437. Calque of West Frisian Fjouwerhús, derived from a compound of Old Frisian fiūwer (“four”) and hūs (“house”). Originally the name of a manor.
