VFAT (plural VFATs)

  1. (computing) Initialism of virtual file allocation table: the method used by Windows 9x and Windows NT to allow the use of long filenames on FAT16 and FAT32 file systems while still providing 8.3 aliases of these filenames for backwards compatibility with systems not supporting long filenames.
