[edit]From Proto-Norse *ᚹᛁᚺᚨᚹᚨᚱᛃᚨᛉ (*wihawarjaʀ), from *ᚹᛁᚺᚨᛉ (*wihaʀ), from Proto-Germanic *wīhą, + *ᚹᚨᚱᛃᚨᛉ (*warjaʀ). By surface analysis, vé (“mansion, house; temple, holy place”) + -urr (“guardian, defender”).
