liaison on informal terms

[edit]

Hi. I disagree with your systematically adding the liaison. It sounds completely unnatural and frankly ridiculous when the words are informal: péter un câble, péter un plomb, poser un lapin, poser une colle, poser une pêche, piquer un roupillon, rouler une pelle, se tirer une balle, s'envoyer en l'air, tirer un coup, and others. I can't see how it would be used other than humorously.

In some cases, it's less shocking, but still somewhat weird: passer à autre chose, passer entre les mailles du filet.

In any case the pronunciations without liaison are extremely common, so you shouldn't remove them: diff. Per utramque cavernam 10:35, 14 October 2018 (UTC)Reply

@Per utramque cavernam You would be surprised to find the very verbs you mention amidst more formal writings; for example, with poser une colle:

Lua error in Module:quote at line 2951: Parameter 1 is required. Lua error in Module:quote at line 2951: Parameter 1 is required. Lua error in Module:quote at line 2951: Parameter 1 is required.

I don't find it impossible or "ridiculous" that the liaison would be made upon reading out these infinitive verbs. --Paris91 (talk) 18:04, 14 October 2018 (UTC)Reply

All right, let's forget about poser une colle. Does /po.ze.ʁ‿yn pɛʃ/ really not sound the least bit unnatural to you? There's a mismatch between the informal register and the rather highbrow liaison here, don't you think? Per utramque cavernam 08:10, 15 October 2018 (UTC)Reply
@Per utramque cavernam I've since edited the entry to include a literal meaning ("Used other than with a figurative or idiomatic meaning: see poser,‎ une,‎ pêche."). In other entries for which I haven't found that a literal use was attested (for example, "rouler une pelle"), I've labelled the first pronunciation as "more formal, perhaps humorous". Does this presentation suit you better? --Paris91 (talk) 08:31, 15 October 2018 (UTC)Reply
Yes, that's better. Thanks. Per utramque cavernam 18:49, 15 October 2018 (UTC)Reply
