Talk pages

[edit]

Deleted entries can have talk pages. Sometimes they're downright useful when the deleter didn't give a reason, and sometimes they contain an archive of a deletion debate. Please stop tagging them for speedy deletion. —Μετάknowledgediscuss/deeds 04:04, 13 September 2019 (UTC)Reply

@Metaknowledge sorry, thanks for explaining. I have reverted my edits. Do you think you could take a look at Talk:xxxi and Talk:ɑƴ thought? --DannyS712 (talk) 04:06, 13 September 2019 (UTC)Reply
I deleted some of them. It's fine to clear out the junk, but the key is to exercise judgement rather than tag by default. —Μετάknowledgediscuss/deeds 04:07, 13 September 2019 (UTC)Reply

Flood flags

[edit]

When you make a large number of minor edits, it is polite to ask for a "flood flag", which keeps watchlists from being 'flooded' with page edits that are not of interest. I don't recall exactly where one asks for a flood flag. It should be either the Grease Pit for technical edits or the Beer Parlor for other edits. DCDuring (talk) 15:42, 19 April 2020 (UTC)Reply

Thanks for letting me know - I'll remember that if it happens again --DannyS712 (talk) 17:38, 19 April 2020 (UTC)Reply

Oversighting vandalism

[edit]

It's nice to see vandalistic user names go away, but it leaves the vandalism visible in the edit history. This kind of vandal seems to be in it for more than notoriety, so I prefer to obliterate anything they might want to look back at later. Chuck Entz (talk) 01:43, 1 January 2021 (UTC)Reply

Well, there isn't anything I can do about the history... I revert without the vandal's name is my revert summary (or at least I try to) but only admins can handle the rest DannyS712 (talk) 01:45, 1 January 2021 (UTC)Reply
Okay, it looks like someone else oversighted those edits, then. As it stands now, I can't change the visibility on any of the edits. I can't even see who did it to ask them to change anything. Chuck Entz (talk) 02:09, 1 January 2021 (UTC)Reply
Ah, so the issue is that you can't revision delete the content since the username was oversighted? This is phab:T253462. @Martin Urbanec I think was the one that hide the user in question, if I recall - is in appropriate for stewards on a wiki with no oversighters, like here, to oversight content that admins would normally revision delete because they can't? Yes, since the user is globally oversighted, local administrators sadly can't revisiondelete. There are two ways how we can workaround this: I can locally unoversight the username, and you can then revdel it as usually, or I can oversight their edits. Up to you.
