Etymology

A humorous Blend of Wikipedia +‎ John.

Originated from an inside joke amongst the communities of works of fiction, consisting of calling the main character "John" plus the name of the work (e.g "John Doom" for the Doomguy/Doom Slayer, the main character of the 1993 videogame DooM).

Possibly due to how common the name "John" is and a parody of the recurring trope of using the work's name in the same narrative being told.
