In short: Just a person who loves languages :)

Currently learning Mandarin the most.

About me

[edit]

Little stories about how I acquired my knowledge about and in languages

[edit]

GERMAN

I was born and raised in Lower Saxony, Germany. So German native speaker, specifically Hannoveran Dialect aka "no dialect", "perfect" Standard German.

ENGLISH

I can speak English rather fluently since third grade. English always was my favouriete language and thus I am going to graduate in Anglistics in approximately three years! I listen to many English songs, watch YouTube in English etc., you know the deal. I actually learned most of my English through video games!

GREEK

Ever since I was a child, I was fascinated by writing systems, but not that much by languages yet. I had a teacher who would give me books to learn the Greek alphabet and language, she still had some from her time in uni because of her Graecum, and was always there for all of my questions about Greek.

LATIN

I have been studying Latin since 6th grade and will continue to study it in uni.

DUTCH I have a brother currently living in The Netherlands, so I am often talking to him in Dutch whenever I can. In return he practises English with me, it's a win-win!

JAPANESE, KANA AND KANJI

Later, about 9th grade, I had my obligatory weeb-phase, so I started to learn Japanese. Ah, Japanese. There is no language yet I hate and love more haha. I am startled by its three (four if you count roumaji) writing systems, with each one having its place in written language.

MANDARIN CHINESE, SIMPLIFIED CHINESE

Because I stopped learning Japanese, but did not want to waste my hardly acquired knowledge of kanji,I switched over to Mandarin Chinese. I learn mostly Simplified to read and write, but am also studying to at least recognise Traditional characters. I need it for all the band and song name in Taiwanese Mandarin!

FRENCH

I went on a trip to France one and for that I wanted to study some French in my free time. I reached conversational fluency rather quick, thanks to all the Fench loanwords in German and English.

SPANISH

In the German equivalent of high school I had a friend with whom I studied in a Spanish class I was not assigned for. She was, soshe asked the teacher if I could join. She said yes. Since then, with varying frequency, I study Spanish, and in addition to that, because of its similarity to Latin and Spanish, Italian.

RUSSIAN, CYRILLIC, KOREAN, HANGEUL

I once tried to learn Russian, but I gave up because I was not as interested as I thought I'd be. But I still can read Cyrillic somewhat fluently, so there's that. Same with Korean and Hangeul.

HEBREW AND ARAB WRITING

If given some time I can figure out biblical Hebrew writing. I used to be able to read Arabic fluently, but that is no more. Still know a decent amount of letters and phonemes though.

My goals on Wiktionary

[edit]
  • to add a currently red article whenever I see one and can
  • to help learners of any language
  • to improve the German Wiktionary, sometimes it is lackluster
