I self-identify as queer as do a large number of people nowadays; this is why it is one of the five letters in LGBTQ nowadays. It is not a personal attack against any user on this wiki. I'm having to spell this out because previously I was being treated as though I was some random cishet person here to post slurs.
Please note that queer people, as well as most BT people regardless of whether they self-identify as queer, find the term "the gay community" offensive if it is being used to refer to the "LGBT community" as a whole. Many even find the term "LGBT" to be mildly offensive because they associate it with homonormativity and the respectability politics of the mainstream NGO-led LGBT movement. Terminology is a very nuanced and complicated thing, which is exactly why Q was added to the acronym LGBT: not because Q wasn't already (mostly) reflected in the acronym, but because it represents a fundamentally different perspective. Because of this, what is offensive to one person may be a point of pride for the other, and vice versa.
