Previously Bigballlover69,

I love learning languages, learning Maltese as of now. Below I'll put free language learning resources for some languages if you need them. If you see a missing language don't worry, I'll add it soon. Also, I'll be adding new free resources over time, so some lists may get bigger. One really good source is https://www.pdfdrive.com/ it's a site that has tonnes of free books, textbooks, anything you want. Just type in "Learn (your target language)" and you'll find a bunch of good learning resources. A better place for language resources is https://www.reddit.com/r/languagelearning/wiki/resources, I'll be using this link to get some resources and put them here.

Language Resources(WIP)

[edit]

Ngl bruh just use wikipedia as a resource fr, wikipedia + google translate my go to, and for keeping up with a language just read news articles in that language or watch content in that language. Comments on media in your target language are always great for hearing informal or colloquial speak.

Language Learning Methods

[edit]

note: hi bro (Quick note: I don't explain things very well, :( sorry if you don't understand something) Everyone learns languages differently, so some of these methods may work for you and others may not. One important tip I'll give you right now, and it's obvious but still, make sure YOU actually want to learn the language you're learning. If you don't want to learn the language you're learning it will be way harder for you to learn and many methods won't help you as you don't actually want to learn said language. If you actually want to learn the language you're learning you'll find that you progress quicker and you have fun learning. So long story short, make sure you actually want to learn the language you're learning. I'll be updating and adding more methods soon.

Method 1

[edit]

This is one of my favourite methods. Have a conversation with yourself in the language you're learning, say what you'd usually say in English (or whatever your native language is) and the words you don't know, learn, it's as simple as that. Example in Spanish: "me gusta jugar video games" as you can see here the speaker doesn't know the word for "videogames" in Spanish, so now he knows to learn that word. Basically hold a conversation as you would in English and fill in the missing vocabulary.

Punjabi to IPA

[edit]

None of these are actually good, if you're not a native speaker and need help with this topic (Punjabi IPA transcription or Punjabi phonology in general) let me know.

Problems

[edit]

It can not transcribe vowels, nor can it transcribe the letters ਲ਼, ਗ਼, ਫ਼, ਖ਼, ਜ਼, ਸ਼. Although this is a major problem I still use it as I can just add the vowels later, it makes adding Punjabi IPA to entries a bit more easier, until a pa-IPA module comes out I'll have to stick to this.

Punabi IPA 2

[edit]

I've made a second converter that converts the transliteration to IPA, much better then the previous one, the link is below.

Canadian Punjabi

[edit]

Common phonological differences I hear in Punjabi in Canada as spoken by 2nd generation immigrants.

Vowels

[edit]
  • <ਐ> - [æː~ɛː]
  • <ਏ> - [ɪː~eː]
  • <ਆ> - [ɐ] (in specific environments)
  • <ਅ> - [ʌ~ə]
  • <ਊ> - [ʉː]
  • <ਔ> - [ɒː]

In most speakers the epenthetic /ə̆/ is no longer pronounced. Thus, Majhi Punjabi /nə.məkə̆/, is Canadian Punjabi [nə.mək]. Could be happening in India or Pakistan as well. In Canadian Punjabi unstressed[1] /äː/ > [ɐ]. "to do" /kəɾ.näː/ > [kəɾ.nɐ~kʌɾ.nɐ]
