[edit]Pronunciations
[edit]I think I might say huan2 or huang2 in careful speech but I use hang2 the most.
hian3
[edit]- pronounced as hian3 when it means that (to a given extent or degree), as in
- 塊物遐孬啊? [Teochew, trad.]
- go3 mêh8 hian3 mo2 a7? [Peng'im]
- Is [it] that bad? (這/個 this/that before 塊 is commonly omitted)
块物遐孬啊? [Teochew, simp.]
hian3
[edit]- and hia2 when it means then (in that case), as in
- 趣味: pronounced as cu3 bhi7 as a noun, "cu5 bhi5" as an adjective
- 滴: sometimes pronounced as nih4 in 滴囝 where it's interchangeable with dih4, but only nih4 in 孥囝滴儂. (if i had to guess it's influenced by the nasal vowel in 囝, and in the case of 孥囝滴儂, completely merged and 囝 was dropped)

[edit]夾 ngiab8
[edit]- (Teochew) clip; clamp (I don't know how to phrase this but it's exclusively things that can pinch your skin and probably hurt you if that makes sense)
- (Teochew) to pinch; to clamp
For objects, if you are clamping something permanently (kinda) like a microphone stand, then it's "ngiab8", if you're using "ngiab8" on things like paper or food packaging, which is not permanent, then it's "giab8", but in the same time "ngiab8" wouldn't really be wrong but it may implies that you're storing it more permanently. (I might be making things up)
For people, if a door shut on your fingers, they got "giab8" by the door, but if it shuts on one side of your arm, or somehow your fingers if you taped your skin to the door frame I guess, like how two fingers would pinch, (no bones damaged) then it got "ngiab8" by the door, also I would use "giab8" personally for hair because I suppose you can't really pinch it the way it grows. (I'm just making things up again)

- hou5 mag8 豆: pea. I've never said 荷蘭豆 in my life but I don't even know if it's actually a puning thing or it's just my mom considering her track record of raising me saying ueng5 iang2 營養 instead of ian5 iang2 when my grandma and her sister both say the correct way but I digress.
