Hi, I'm Alan. My surname, for anyone who truly cares about such things, is: A s h t o n - J e a n e s. This is quite a distinctive surname (go ahead and Google it, if you dare), so I prefer to keep a low profile as far as search engines are concerned.

I love words and language. English is my native language and the only other language I'm reasonably fluent in is French, although I can generally cope with written German. My near lifelong familiarity with Roget's Thesaurus (Penguin Reference edition) deserves a mention, if only because I have misplaced my copy and feel slightly bereft without it. Wikisaurus is no substitute, I'm afraid.
