Etymology

[edit]

The second element is from Old English byriġ, dative case of burh (fort). The first element comes either from the personal name Tutta, or else from the personal name Stūt, genitive singular Stūtes, in which case the initial S- was lost, as similarly happened in the case of Nottingham.

Proper noun

[edit]

Tutbury

  1. A village and civil parish in East Staffordshire district, Staffordshire, England (OS grid ref SK2128).
