[edit]Borrowed through Oscan from Proto-Italic *tibhes-no- (“marsh, river”), from Proto-Indo-European *teh₂- (“to flow, to melt”). However, compare Oscan 𐌕𐌉𐌚𐌀 (tifa, “hill”), related to Latin teba (“hill”).
