hi. i checked the source again. it's one of two most important Persian dictionary (Dehkhoda). The etymology is not clear. First: Persian, second Turkic and also from French "tube". it's not just the matter of sense. In this dictionary, words with Arabic and Turkic origin are clearly mentioned at the beginning. Hi. I can't read the link, so I'll take your word for it. Are you saying that the dictionary doesn't make it clear what the etymology is? Or are there two etymologies? In any case, I'll revert myself on توپ never mind, you already did because you seem to know it better than I do.
