English
[edit]Noun
[edit]Sense: language with the number of morphemes per word close to one
[edit]Synonyms
[edit]- isolating language
Hypernyms
[edit]Instances
[edit]Various
[edit]- analytic language [⇒ thesaurus] (near hypernym)
Notes
[edit]- Wikidata ranks isolating language as a subclass of analytic language, unsourced. By contrast, Britannica says an isolating language tends to be analytic, not a strict hyponymy. The hyponymy hypothesis seems plausible given the definitions, and English would be analytic but not isolating language, upon narrow reading of the terms.
