Etymology
[edit]First attested as op der deke in 1343. Derived from an inflected form of te (“at”) and Middle Dutch deeck (“washed up brushwood, washed up reeds or rushes”). The second element was later reinterpreted to a dialectal variant of dijk (“levee”).
