Gender

[edit]

@Angr, Wikitiki89: Do we really want this template to require gender? I've been finding it extremely difficult to find/verify gender for many proper nouns; perhaps there is a better way I should go about searching for them? Can we have gender be an optional parameter instead? —Μετάknowledgediscuss/deeds 04:02, 30 December 2015 (UTC)Reply

I don't mind making it optional. —Aɴɢʀ (talk) 07:31, 30 December 2015 (UTC)Reply
Every proper noun theoretically has a gender. I think it is totally acceptable to leave a "?" for genders that we are unable to determine. --WikiTiki89 16:19, 30 December 2015 (UTC)Reply
My problem with that is that it fills up Category:Yiddish terms with incomplete gender when we really want to deal with the common nouns in there. But really, is there a good resource or way to search where I can find the genders of proper nouns? —Μετάknowledgediscuss/deeds 17:37, 30 December 2015 (UTC)Reply
My hunch is that there might be a systematic rule for placenames, which may be covered in a sufficiently detailed Yiddish grammar. People obviously go by natural gender. Maybe we should have separate cleanup categories for common and proper nouns. --WikiTiki89 17:54, 30 December 2015 (UTC)Reply
I'll research it next month (if I remember). In the mean time, I'd be happy with separate categories. Would you mind implementing? I don't know how to tell the module that it's invoking to stop being an annoyance. —Μετάknowledgediscuss/deeds 18:04, 30 December 2015 (UTC)Reply
I'll look into it. --WikiTiki89 18:20, 30 December 2015 (UTC)Reply
