Does this template even work?
[edit]The code looks very complicated, and trying it out in my sandbox I can't get it to work. For example cl= is for class, but it doesn't seem to work. What is this template supposed to do? I feel sure that whatever it is can be simplified. --Mglovesfun (talk) 16:55, 25 May 2011 (UTC)
- Yes, it works. It adds the noun class and the plural form. An example is at mtoto. It actually needs a little more, so that it links the resulting noun class to the appropriate class at Appendix:Swahili noun classes. The first parameter is the noun class for the singular; the second is for the noun class of the plural; the third is the word stem. Appendix:Swahili noun classes might need to be modified slightly so that the names of the noun classes match up with the names produced by the template (in the same way that Arabic verbs such as كتب link appropriately to Appendix:Arabic verbs). This template actually adds two noun classes, one for the singular and one for the plural...this needs to be reconciled with the appendix. It would also be a big help if this template would accept numbers as alternative parameters. For the average native speaker, the template works well, but for Swahili scholars, numerical parameters would be far simpler. —Stephen (Talk) 21:57, 25 May 2011 (UTC)
