Change of wording

The wording "The addition of quotations indicative of this usage is being sought:" is a bit weird. Why does it say "usage" instead of "sense" and why is there a colon at the end? To ensure consistency with other request templates, it should say something like "Can we add a quotation indicative of this sense?". Tc14Hd (talk) 23:18, 12 June 2024 (UTC)

it looks like it may have been copied from a template that allowed a second parameter, or perhaps even required one. this template just takes the language name, perhaps because there's no need to distinguish the sense when its already confined to appearing on one line. —Soap— 18:37, 28 September 2024 (UTC)

@Tc14Hd, Soap The page says that the template should be used before the definition. That's surely the reason why it has a colon. However, I think using it after the definition is often preferable. Would it be difficult to add a "dot=" parameter? We have that in several other templates. I also agree that the wording should be changed. It's long and I suppose hardly intelligible to a good deal of L2-users. I'd suggest "Can we add a quotation illustrating this sense?" 2.207.102.112 01:06, 6 November 2024 (UTC)

I don't think that adding a dot= parameter would be difficult to implement, but I'm not quite what it would do. If the message is phrased as a question ("Can we add a quotation illustrating this sense?"), where exactly would you insert a dot or colon? Tc14Hd (aka Marc) (talk) 16:50, 19 November 2024 (UTC)
