Grammatical Gender Templates

@Inqilābī, SodhakSH Before the Prakrit merger, this template was used on a few Maharastri entries to show gender distinction for nouns by using a box instead of the headword line. It was based on Template:gu-g and Template:mr-g. These gender templates are potentially useful for Marathi and Gujarati because including the gender variation on the headword line for up to three genders may not be as clear. Although Maharastri Prakrit has three genders like Sanskrit, Template:pmh-g was only used for the masculine and feminine genders since the variation may not apply to to the neuter gender. However, during SodhakSH's merging and the creation of 𑀧𑀢𑁆𑀢𑀻 (pattī) + 𑀧𑀇 (paï), the gender information was moved from Template:pmh-g to the headword line, which is the style used on Hindi entries (such as at नर्तक (nartak) and बाज़ीगर (bāzīgar) in a two-gender system).

Would using a gender template such as Template:pmh-g be considered:

nonstandard

unnecessary since the variation may not apply to the neuter gender and

incapable of handling lect differences, or

would the box and the ability to see all entries with gender variation with Special:WhatLinksHere/Template:pmh-g (Special:WhatLinksHere/Template:gu-g) outweigh the shortcomings?

• Delete (eventually) all these nonstandard language-specific templets, the headword parameters should be used for all languages to show the gender information: yes, a three-gender system can be goodly represented in the headword. By the way, what do you mean by ‘SodhakSH's merging and the creation of […] ’?— some templet editing or the like? ·~ dictátor·mundꟾ 22:55, 14 July 2021 (UTC)

• Delete. "The creation of […] " perhaps implied that now, in these new entries, showing the other gender form at the headword level is preferred. When I actively merged the Prakrit entries, I remember I also removed this template and added the form at {{head}}. For example, see diff🔥शब्दशोधक🔥 04:14, 15 July 2021 (UTC)

@Inqilābī, SodhakSH Thanks for the responses. SodhakSH guessed correctly. eventually is important since there are several actions that would need to occur before deleting these nonstandard language-specific templets, and unfortunately there appear to be no editors that regularly edit Gujarati entries.

Would the verb set templates

Template:hi-verb set, Template:gu-verb set, Template:mr-verb set, Template:pa-verb set

be considered as another one of these nonstandard language-specific templets with the corresponding information to be moved to the headword line? Since verb set templates were started by AryamanA, they probably shouldn't be deleted without input from AryamanA. The grammatical gender templates were started by DerekWinters/Smettems. • The verb set templates are fine, they should be kept. Language-specific templates aren't a problem unless they are redundant/unused or unless better options are there, as in the case of this template. 🔥शब्दशोधक🔥 16:01, 16 July 2021 (UTC)
