Uncountable
[edit]Please modify the code so that uncountable nouns can be correctly defined using this template. Otherwise create a new template. --Achillu 07:44, 19 August 2010 (UTC)
- Just use {{infl|it|noun}} followed by {{m|inv}} or {{f|inv}} SemperBlotto 08:37, 19 August 2010 (UTC)
Two plurals for the same word?
[edit]What if there's an Italian noun that has two or more plurals, such as orgia? - Lo Ximiendo 21:14, 11 April 2011 (UTC)
Change to template format
[edit]The format of this template's positional parameters is currently being changed. When the conversion process has been completed the documentation page will be changed accordingly. The new format will be {{it-noun|g|pl}} where g is the gender and pl is the plural form. This format may be used as from now. SemperBlotto (talk) 21:18, 14 September 2013 (UTC)
- The new parameter format is already valid actually, and the documentation page was already updated. —CodeCat 21:21, 14 September 2013 (UTC)
Formation of plurals
[edit]Typically, the plurals of Italian nouns are formed by modifying the ending as follows:-
- Masculine nouns
- -o => -i (gatto => gatti)
- -co => -chi (tedesco => tedeschi)
- -go => -ghi (lago => laghi)
- -ologo => -ologi (filologo => filologi)
- -io => -i (if the stress is elsewhere - negozio => negozi)
- -io => -ii (if stressed on the "i" of -io - zio => zii)
- -a => -i (poeta => poeti)
- -ga => -ghi (collega => colleghi)
- -e => -i (padre => padri)
- Feminine nouns
- -a => -e (gatta => gatte)
- -ca => -che (banca => banche)
- -ga => -ghe (collega => colleghe)
- -cia => -ce (if the stress is elsewhere - doccia => docce)
- -gia => -ge (if the stress is elsewhere - pioggia => piogge)
- -e => -i (madre => madri)
- Invariant nouns
- The plural is the same as the singular if
- the singular ends in a consonant (camion)
- the singular ends in an accented vowel (caffè)
- the singular ends in -i (crisi)
- the singular ends in -ie (serie)
- the singular is a single syllable (re)
- it is a surname (Costa)
- it is an abbreviation of a longer word (radio (of radiotelefonia))
- The plural is the same as the singular if
mpl and fpl
[edit]Module:parameters has brought to light some uses of mpl and fpl parameters. I removed them in order to be consistent with other similar entries (they never worked as intended, anyway), but it might be worth considering whether adding those parameters might be a good idea. I don't work on Italian entries, so I'll leave that to others to decide. I'm not sure whether I should have posted this here or at module:it-head- feel free to move this there. Thanks! Uncountable nouns and categorization
[edit]Could someone edit the template to make possible to display uncountable nouns and to automatically categorize nouns into Category:Italian countable nouns and Category:Italian uncountable nouns? Thanks ;) [ˌiˑvã̠n̪ˑˈs̪kr̺ud͡ʒʔˌn̺ovã̠n̪ˑˈt̪ɔ̟t̪ːo] (parla con me) 09:45, 8 January 2017 (UTC)
- Alright, I edited the module and it seems categorization works, now how can "~" not be displayed? [ˌiˑvã̠n̪ˑˈs̪kr̺ud͡ʒʔˌn̺ovã̠n̪ˑˈt̪ɔ̟t̪ːo] (parla con me) 10:04, 8 January 2017 (UTC)
Pejoratives, Diminutives and Augmentatives
[edit]The template's documentation has yet to explain the parameters for pejorative (pej), diminutive (dim) and augmentative (aug) forms of nouns. -- Apisite (talk) 02:55, 9 November 2023 (UTC)
