Add topicRevamp of right-floating Hungarian boxes
[edit]@Adam78, Ewithu, Linguoboy, Panda10 I am pinging you to discuss a potential revamp of this and other right-floating Hungarian boxes ({{hu-suff-pron}}
and {{hu-comp-postp}}
).
These are no longer consistent with English Wiktionary's overall look, and they compromise the flow of the entries in which they are placed, especially in Vector 2022 (Wiktionary's new default skin). Moreover, they have a poor look in Wiktionary's dark mode - and the squashed-up text isn't even that great in light mode.
Similar boxes in other languages are placed as a full-width collapsible box under a "related terms" or "see also" header. Compare {{grc-correlatives}}
, {{hi-correlatives}}
etc.
I'd like to transform the three Hungarian right-floating templates to a similar style. Are there any thoughts on this proposal? This, that and the other (talk) 09:24, 23 January 2025 (UTC)
- I don't mind (so much), I understand the reasons, so as far as I'm concerned, go ahead and thank you for your work. I hope no other change will be necessary aside from justifying to the left and expanding the squashed-up parts and maybe some other abbreviations. Thanks again in advance! - I do not mind neither, but maybe it could be a similar width as the declenion tables? I'm bringing my thought of the "disconnect" between the collapsable frame and the table in it here too, just as I did on the declension side, but if it looks alright on the 2022 vector view I do not object. I'm looking forward! Ewithu (talk) 11:26, 23 January 2025 (UTC)
- @This, that and the other I'm for the full-width collapsible box under See also. I'd like to mention it here that the revamped declension/possessive boxes lost their light green color in collapsed mode and a darker grey vertical bar appears next to the "show" link indicating that there is a blank row below the title row. I wonder if you can remove that bar and add the color back. What color are you planning to use for these three new boxes? Thank you for your work. Panda10 (talk) 12:13, 23 January 2025 (UTC)
- @Adam78 @Ewithu @Panda10 thanks all for your input. I have done my best to design an un-squashed replacement to
{{hu-suff-pron}}
and{{hu-corr}}
which brings them into line with other Wiktionary templates:- I am quite happy with
{{hu-suff-pron/new}}
. It fits neatly on a single screen. - I have also converted
{{hu-corr/new}}
. This table is very large and it requires both vertical and horizontal scrolling to view the whole thing. But I don't think there is anything that can be done about this unless information is removed from the template. Moreover, the existing{{hu-corr}}
is so heavily abbreviated that parts of it are practically unusable, so I feel that{{hu-corr/new}}
is still an improvement on the status quo. I did make minor changes to the way the terms in the second row (Hungarian headers) are linked - so I'd appreciate a check of this if possible.
- I am quite happy with
- As for
{{hu-comp-postp}}
, I am having trouble understanding how the collapsibility is set up here. It seems rather non-intuitive for the user. Can any of you enlighten me? - @Panda10 the
{{inflection-table-top}}
template doesn't currently offer a coloured top bar like the classic NavFrame does. This is mainly because nobody has asked for such a thing yet - and it may not be easy to implement. But I can certainly have a go. As for the "darker grey vertical bar", that doesn't sound like it should be there - can you perhaps share a screenshot and tell me which browser you're using? - @This, that and the other I use Firefox 134.0.2, but I also tested it in Safari and I could not reproduce it. The grey bar is not seen immediately when you go to an entry. Go to the declension box, click Show then click Hide, it will show up right next to Show. Where and how do I upload screenshots? I am surprised that no one has asked for a colored top bar yet. How do I test dark mode on a Mac? I turned dark mode on on my iPad but it has not changed the Wiktionary screen, it was still white. Panda10 (talk) 12:57, 24 January 2025 (UTC)
