Template:de-letter

Not used anywhere. What's the point of it anyway? Just use {{infl|de|letter}} rather than x-letter for every language. Mglovesfun (talk) 11:17, 29 July 2010 (UTC)

I think the template should rather be globalized so it works for every language. Something like {{infl-letter|de}}. We currently have many entries on individual letters but they all look different and are not standardized in any way. -- Prince Kassad 13:47, 29 July 2010 (UTC)

That's the system used on fr: for all parts of speech, on here we only use it for templates like {{initialism}}. Something like an extension of {{mul-letter}} would be ideal. Mglovesfun (talk) 14:06, 29 July 2010 (UTC)

Strong keep. This is the system used by all inflection templates, and it works quite well. Specialized templates are preferred over infl, which is only used where no available template exists yet. --Yair rand (talk) 18:43, 29 July 2010 (UTC)

Strong keep if it's not replaced by a generic inflection-line template for use for letters in all Latin-script languages. (And redirect thereto if it is so replaced.) My "strong keep" is because this template has parameters that, if one were to use {{infl}}, would need to be written out each time. Weak keep and improve. The template page is ridiculous, but that's only because of Daniel.'s great love of overly shared wiki-text. If we fix it to be what German would actually need, then it can be useful. —Ruakh_TALK 12:33, 30 July 2010 (UTC)

Yeah I just wanted to add a NAMESPACE parameter to the category, and couldn't. I'm not sure exactly how many xx(x)-letter templates we have, and how many are used, even once. Mglovesfun (talk) 08:13, 31 July 2010 (UTC)

Per Prince Kassad, if we're gonna have a master template to standardize these templates, we can just as easily (in fact much more easily) skip the middle step and have the master template directly on the entries with a language parameter specified. The only example I can think of would be script, so that {{ru-letter}} automatically uses {{Cyrl}}. Having said that, we already have a template for that ({{Xyzy}}).
