Template talk:conjugation of

[edit]Wow! Brilliant job EncycloPetey! Harris Morgan 00:47, 28 February 2008 (UTC).
- Actually, most of the credit goes to Rod, who devised the
inflection of
template. I've simply adapted his code. --EncycloPetey 01:01, 28 February 2008 (UTC)- A jolly well done to both of you then! Harris Morgan 01:15, 28 February 2008 (UTC).
gender
[edit]Why no gender tags?—msh210℠ 22:52, 10 July 2008 (UTC)
- Because verbs don't have gender. The template
inflection of
is used for nouns and adjectives; this template is for verbs. They are not done with the same template. --EncycloPetey 03:29, 11 July 2008 (UTC)- Pardon? In some languages, "he went" and "she went" are two different words.—msh210℠ 15:12, 11 July 2008 (UTC)
- Which ones? This isn't a common phenomenon, as far as I know, and the template is generic. It's designed for broad usage. However, it is also equipped to be flexible by allowing text to be entered that doesn't have a shortcut tag. If we tried to include a shortcut for every possible text that might be included, the list would be enormous. --EncycloPetey 16:12, 11 July 2008 (UTC)
- Afro-Asiatic languages. Perhaps others, too; I don't know—msh210℠ 16:35, 11 July 2008 (UTC)

lang param
[edit]The hash linking to a section with the lang param makes a list for some reason; e.g

-- Pinochio 07:42, 25 April 2009 (UTC)
oh, it's because I left out {}; but I still don't see why it does that, lists should only work when on a new line, right? -- Pinochio 07:51, 25 April 2009 (UTC)
- Not if there's a template involved. In that case you're subject to whatever limitations are imposed by the coding of the template(s) involved. Personally, I place explicitly named parameters last in any template call so that I can tell which other parameter values are {}, {}, etc. Inserting the named parameters first makes it harder for future editors to parse the syntax. --EncycloPetey 16:44, 25 April 2009 (UTC)
past historic
[edit]Hi. I'm experimenting with this for my bot: how would we render # with this template? --Rising Sun 21:53, 17 August 2009 (UTC)
- As either
- or as:
- or as:
- The second option would ensure the page is counted in the statistics without the need for a bot to add an additional "count" template to the page. The third option links to the appropriate language section explicitly, but the template does this anyway if the "lang=" parameter is included.
- You could also use any of the above with the variant if you want to link that part of the text. The standard items coded in the template are not linked. --EncycloPetey 01:40, 18 August 2009 (UTC)

Arabic perfect verb forms
[edit]Can this template be enhanced (if it doesn't do it) to accommodate Arabic verb forms, e.g. يَكْتُبُ (yaktubu), specifically "imperfect indicative 3rd person singular". There are a few candidates. --Anatoli T. (обсудить/вклад) 08:43, 28 July 2014 (UTC)
