Do all Catalan proper nouns have gender?

[edit]

Do all Catalan proper nouns have gender? As the default is Category:Catalan nouns lacking gender. Mglovesfun (talk) 09:06, 25 January 2011 (UTC)Reply

I'm not quite sure but I believe so. Even if you never use an article or adjective with them, you would still need to decide whether to use ell or ella when referring back to them. —CodeCat 10:57, 25 January 2011 (UTC)Reply
Surnames do not have gender. --Vriullop (talk) 20:12, 9 January 2017 (UTC)Reply
Can they be considered proper nouns, then? —CodeCat 21:04, 9 January 2017 (UTC)Reply
They are considered proper nouns but a surname may refer to a male or female. For example Barcelona is feminine but as a surname it is undefined: la Barcelona vella (old Barcelona) is feminine, en Barcelona with masculine personal article is a male person and na Barcelona with a feminine personal article is a female person. I was suprised Fabra is in Category:Catalan terms with incomplete gender. I really don't know how I should fix it. --Vriullop (talk) 20:09, 10 January 2017 (UTC)Reply
