The 3-letter templates are reserved for language codes. ISO 639-3 bgc is for the language Haryanvi. Would people be okay if we made the "soft"-redirect to {{google}} at {{b.g.c.}}? Language parameter

Would it be ok to use a language parameter, such as to link to books.google.fr (or .it, .es, etc)? If so, how? I suppose it needs relaying from {{google}}, assuming the template has such a parameter. Mglovesfun (talk) 19:35, 28 February 2011 (UTC)

I think it would be better to use a language parameter that specifies "give me hits in [French]", rather than "give me the [French] UI". For one thing, the latter would require mappings that we'd have to maintain manually: in the specific case of French and Italian and Spanish, the language-code is identical to a decently appropriate country code, but books.google.ca is for Canada, not Catalan, and books.google.co.il has an extra "co" in there (in addition to being .il for Israel rather than .he for Hebrew).
