A facsimile of the first (1579) edition is also available on the Internet Archive. Perhaps this template should be changed to point to that edition rather than the 1586 one? But that would require a lot of work in going through all the existing entries that cite the 1586 edition, so should I alternatively just create a new template for citing the 1579 edition? — Vorziblix (talk · contribs) 15:46, 30 October 2020 (UTC)Reply

@Vorziblix: ah, good find! Rather than create a new quotation template, my preference would be to update the current template so that it can display either quotations from the 1st or 1586 edition, and then to run a bot to add |year=1586 to all the current uses of the quotation template. Later on, editors can manually update specific entries to refer to the 1st edition if they wish. — SGconlaw (talk) 21:25, 30 October 2020 (UTC)Reply
@Benwing2: see the previous comment. When you're free, could you do a bot run and add |year=1586 to all current uses of {{RQ:Spenser Shepheardes Calender}}? For now that won't do anything, but once the template is updated it will refer to the 1586 edition of the work. — SGconlaw (talk) 21:28, 30 October 2020 (UTC)Reply
