IV or IIII

[edit]

@Sgconlaw Should “IV” or “IIII” be used in book and canto numbers? The books, which also use full stops after Roman numerals, use “IIII”. (I have added a list of errors in the canto numbering. The list does not include errors on pages with headers (e.g., on this page, the canto number in the header is “VIII”, whereas the canto number at the top is “V”.)) @J3133: thanks for adding the list of errors. I guess it’s up to editors whether they want to use IV or IIII; it doesn’t break anything in the template if IIII is used. — SGconlaw (talk) 05:12, 26 August 2020 (UTC)Reply

1596

[edit]

@Sgconlaw: The year is automatically given as 1590 if it's not stated, which is probably a Good Thing for the books 1-3. However, for books 4-6, the default date should be 1596. --Java Beauty (talk) 20:07, 3 September 2020 (UTC)Reply

enlumine

[edit]
Discussion moved from User talk:Sgconlaw.

There's a Spenser quote taken from the prologue of one part at enlumine. I think the format of Template:RQ:Spenser Faerie Queene could be better than saying canto prologue. Any suggestions? Zumbacool (talk) 08:29, 24 May 2022 (UTC)Reply

@Zumbacool: OK, you can now either specify |canto=prologue (which will suppress the word "canto") or just omit the parameter. (Also, if quoting books IV to VI |year=1596.2 needs to be added.) — Sgconlaw (talk) 14:25, 24 May 2022 (UTC)Reply
