1st edition (1905)

[edit]

@Vorziblix: I assume you have full access to the 1st edition (1905) of the work at Google Books where you are? The work simply shows up as inaccessible where I am. I considered asking Google Books to make the work fully accessible, but Lord Dunsany died 67 years ago in 1957, which means that in many places we have to wait for 70 years to elapse from his death (i.e., until 2027) before it enters the public domain. On the other hand, I could access the 1911 version at the Internet Archive. — Sgconlaw (talk) 16:34, 5 March 2024 (UTC)Reply

@Sgconlaw: I see! I hadn't considered that the accessibility might be regionally limited; for me the 1905 version is indeed fully accessible and even downloadable at Google Books. (I am currently based in the USA.) I’m not sure what the best way to proceed in such cases is (whether to link or not, and so forth); I think it makes sense to quote the first edition where possible, but of course having a link that’s widely readable and verifiable is better than having one that’s regionally restricted. Perhaps I might try later tonight to upload the PDF that Google generates for me to the Internet Archive and link to that version instead, if that would make an acceptable solution. — Vorziblix (talk · contribs) 18:58, 5 March 2024 (UTC)Reply
@Vorziblix: if the work is fully accessible in the US, then there shouldn't be a copyright problem having it in the Internet Archive as well since it is based in the USA. Uploading it to the IA would therefore be a great solution. — Sgconlaw (talk) 19:04, 5 March 2024 (UTC)Reply
@Sgconlaw: Great, I’ve gone ahead and uploaded it, and also changed the template links. — Vorziblix (talk · contribs) 02:02, 6 March 2024 (UTC)Reply
