@JohnC5: I want to write the documentation page, but I can't figure out how to use the "entry" parameter. Could you give a hand? --Barytonesis (talk) 01:39, 28 May 2017 (UTC)
- @Barytonesis: Better? —JohnC5 01:25, 29 May 2017 (UTC)
- @JohnC5: Yes, thanks. --Barytonesis (talk) 18:09, 29 May 2017 (UTC)
Move
[edit]@Rua, Vahagn Petrosyan, JohnC5: Can we move this to {{R:itc:EDL}}
, while retaining this as an alias? --Victar (talk) 19:02, 6 February 2018 (UTC)
- That's ok with me. —Rua (mew) 19:09, 6 February 2018 (UTC)
- Done! --Victar (talk) 19:21, 6 February 2018 (UTC)
- I moved it back to
{{R:De Vaan 2008}}
. The people who prefer no lang prefix are as many as those who do, from what I remmber. --Dan Polansky (talk) 22:26, 20 April 2018 (UTC)- @Dan Polansky, why did you move it back? Also, without pinging anyone. You could have still used the old name as it still works as an alias. --Victar (talk) 16:24, 5 November 2018 (UTC)
- That works both ways: those who prefer R:itc:EDL can use it as an alias. Again, the people who prefer no lang prefix for reference templates are as many as those who prefer lang prefix, from what I remember. However, I have no objections to the template being moved to
{{R:EDL}}
if that is what people prefer. --Dan Polansky (talk) 14:51, 10 November 2018 (UTC)- In any case there should be
:itc:
in it, as it treats Italic languages. Lang prefixes help autocompletion too, so when I typeT:R:ar:F
into the search bar I see the complete template names of references dealing with Arabic and starting with F. In no case there should be reference templatesR:
+ a three-letter acronym because such a name lacks distinctive character. One recognizes what{{R:sh:HJP}}
is, because HJP in the context of Serbo-Croatian means Hrvatski jezični portal. Without this connection ”HJP” could mean anything. R:HJP is a terrible-terrible template name. Don’t create such templates. - I deny that there are people short of you who prefer no lang prefix. That’s just a reactionary reminiscence of the past when there was disorder of template names. - There is no need to deny anything or write inflammatory posts like the one above; there was a Beer parlour discussion about this, but I cannot find it now. --Dan Polansky (talk) 16:00, 10 November 2018 (UTC)
- @Dan Polansky, I'm going to move this back to
{{R:itc:EDL}}
. It's what the people who use this template, like myself, prefer. If you wish to continue using{{R:De Vaan 2008}}
as an alias, or even{{R:EDL}}
, you can do so. --Victar (talk) 15:23, 10 November 2018 (UTC)
