- @Bhagadatta: Of course not. But I'll prefer using this from now on instead of Apte and MW. If you have any problem, I'm also fine with using this template only for referencing the dictionaries like Vedabase and DCS which don't have their own separate templates. 🔥शब्दशोधक🔥 12:32, 15 April 2021 (UTC)
- @SodhakSH: Right, I think using it only for Vedabase and DCS is better. The MW and Apte templates redirect the user to the published works of MW and Apte. This one is based on a website and kind of tells the user "here, look it up yourself". - @Bhagadatta: Just to clarify, this template is now deleted. I've created
{{R:DCS}}, for referencing DCS, from the original site (can I use it on entries, even for those in which the definitions of MW and DCS are the same, just for showing occurrence and attestation in Sanskrit literature?). Vedabase, in my opinion, is not necessary, as it's main job is proving quotations which explain the sense - see Special:MobileDiff/62386050 - I removed the reference which showed only the Vedabase and added the quotation from the actual website. Maybe if you want, a reference template could be created for Vedabase (like{{R:sa:Vedabase}}or{{R:Vedabase}}) which'd link tohttps://vedabase.io/en/search/?query={{{1|{{xlit|sa|{{PAGENAME}}}}}}}. Regarding "website that acts as a database by using different people's works" - isn't DSAL also one like that? The difference is that our reference templates for these works takes the reader directly to the source that the editor wants to put as a reference. Hence when you are using
{{R:CDIAL}}you are crediting Turner for the information you've entered on the page, not DSAL. This template on the other hand showed the user a bunch of different sources where the word appears and makes the user look it up themselves. It also created the illusion that the information in this entry was being charged to a work called "Sanskrit Dictionary".
