Since we presumably still want to preserve any parameters that were listed, and the subst: if present, and the monospace formatting, would it maybe make more sense to just give {{temp}}
a special named parameter that prevents the link? —RuakhTALK 23:08, 25 November 2013 (UTC)
- Sure. I think someone should do that. DCDuring TALK 23:04, 1 December 2013 (UTC)
Useful?
[edit]I don't think this template is really useful. If the template that {{temp}}
links to doesn't exist, it shows a red link. That in itself is useful information, and I don't think paving over that by using a template that hides the link really helps any. Or did you intend something else? —CodeCat 23:25, 1 December 2013 (UTC)
- I sympathize That's how I feel about many applications of the language template-and-module "system", such as all of the English language inflection templates, and many aspects of the category template system. Then there are the parts that are ridiculous and dysfunctional.
- I use the special:wantedpages/wantedtemplates to identify both detritus from our template systems (much of what is in special wanted templates) and pages that actually need to be added. No practical set of bot runs can match those pages, wanted templates being available every three days and pages every 30 days. The value of the those pages for adding truly needed content is diminished by clutter from:
- spurious "wanted templates" from things like #ifexist tests in templates;
- spurious "wants" from templates that have been deleted, but are still in talk pages, the meaning of which would often be recovered only by restoring many template pages;
- spurious wants from the category system as for etymology codes from category pages;
- unsatisfied or spurious wants from the operation of the context label system which generates such wanted templates as
{{of a leaf}}
; - unsatisfied or spurious wanted pages such as for possibly SoP grammatical terms used in inflection tables;
- category pages for categories that are so ridiculous that no one wants to add the pages.
- The only purpose served by not reducing the clutter is that is the clutter conceals the neglected maintenance and absurd elements of the systems that have been perpetrated.
- Any simple methods for reducing clutter on these maintenance pages should be welcome. DCDuring TALK 02:04, 2 December 2013 (UTC)
