Generic format

The following is used when creating new entries for Vietnamese Han characters:

Detailed format

The Hán-Việt (Sino-Vietnamese) and Nôm (demotic or vernacular) readings of a Vietnamese Han character (Hán Nôm) can be further distinguished by the following syntax:

Multiple readings are separated with commas. If the character has no Hán Việt readings, or if it has no Nôm readings, omit the corresponding parameter.

If specified, fanqie (phiên thiết) pronunciation guides are displayed after the corresponding Hán-Việt reading:

If there are multiple Hán-Việt readings, and thus multiple fanqie, separate them with commas.

References

References can be added after each reading using a dash sign followed by an abbreviation. Multiple references are separated using a semicolon.

Abbreviated names of references can be found in the source code of Module:vi.

Readings are arranged based on the number of references, e.g. nhơn has 4 references and is given precedence over other readings.

Reference links to Wiktionary:About Vietnamese/references are automatically generated. If references are specified, be sure to include this at the bottom of the Vietnamese entry:

Categorization

The template automatically links each reading and places the entry in either Category:Vietnamese Chữ Hán or Category:Vietnamese Nom, sorting by the radical–stroke number key given in rs.

Entries using the generic format specified above are categorized into Category:Vietnamese Han characters with unconfirmed readings (hidden category).
