Sino-Vietnamese

Usage

Use this template in the etymology section of a term with a derivation from an uncertain Chinese language. When the specific language is known (Mandarin, Cantonese, Min Nan, etc.) please use {{der}}, {{bor}} or other derivation templates with the relevant language code.

Parameters

  • For Sino-Vietnamese words:
    |1= (required): the first Sinitic term to be linked to
    |2=: the gloss (brief explanation) for |1=
    |3=: a second Sinitic term to be linked to
    |4=: the gloss for |3=
    |5=: a third Sinitic term to be linked to
    |6=: the gloss for |5=
  • For words of non-Sino-Vietnamese readings (words agreed by Sinologists as derived from Old Chinese or nativized from Middle Chinese, which are often thought by native Vietnamese speakers as native):
    |hv=: unspecified non-Sino-Vietnamese term
    |nat=: nativized non-Sino-Vietnamese term, borrowed after Sino-Vietnamese was well established
    |preMC=: borrowed non-Sino-Vietnamese term, borrowed before Sino-Vietnamese was well established
    • If one of the above parameters are used:
    |2= becomes the gloss of the original Chinese word
    |3= becomes the corresponding non-Sino-Vietnamese reading
  • The |1=, |2= and |3= parameters are concatenated and automatically supplemented to {{senseid}} if non-Sino-Vietnamese is unspecified, and is scoped to only |1= otherwise.
