Usage

This template displays the abbreviation var. and links to Appendix:Glossary#varia lectio:

var.

It is used in quotations to indicate variant readings—usually the variant spellings of the defined entry attested in different manuscripts and printed editions of the same work. This is relevant for ancient languages whose literature has reached us in multiple manuscripts copied by hand, with variations introduced by copyists.

The template {{var}} should be added directly after the term whose variants are to be shown, followed by a space and the variants, separated by a comma if there is more than one of them. The template and the variant(s) should be put together in parentheses. For example, in the quotations for տառատոկ (taṙatok):
