Usage

[edit]

This template is intended to show the headword line of Romanian adjectives. Besides the masculine singular, the headword line also includes the feminine singular, masculine plural and feminine plural. The template can correctly generate these forms for most adjectives, following some simple rules:

  • The feminine singular gets as an ending or -e for certain word endings (e.g. bun -> bună, but vechi -> veche).
  • The masculine plural gets -i as an ending and the final consonant is changed if applicable (e.g. ars -> arși).
  • The feminine plural is formed from the feminine singular by replacing the or -e ending with an -e ending. If the first parameter is set to i, the feminine plural will end in -i instead.

Additionally, the template has special rules for some common endings that do not follow the above rules and would need to be specified manually otherwise, see #Special rules.

For adjectives with stem changes or that otherwise do not follow these rules, use the parameters below to specify the forms manually.

Optional parameters

[edit]
Parameter Function
head The head word, if different from the page name.
1 If set to i, the feminine plural will be generated as ending in -i instead of -e.
If set to inv, the adjective will be shown as invariable.
f, f2, ... The feminine form(s), if different from the generated form.
mp, mp2, ... The masculine plural form(s), if different from the generated form.
fp, fp2, ... The feminine plural form(s), if different from the generated form.
pl, pl2, ... The plural form(s), if it is the same for all genders. Usually, the first parameter can be set to i for the same result.
suff If set to any value, the page will be categorized as a suffix instead of an adjective.
cat2, cat3, ... Additional part-of-speech categories. Do not include "Romanian" in the category name.

Examples

[edit]
Adjective Code Notes
bun {{ro-adj}} All forms are regular and are generated automatically.
frumos {{ro-adj|f=frumoasă}} The |f= parameter is used because the feminine form has a vowel change in the stem. The rest of the forms are generated automatically. Note that the feminine plural is based on the feminine singular, so it does not need to be specified manually.
mic {{ro-adj|i}} The first parameter is set to i to show that the feminine form ends in -i instead of -e. This is a shortcut; |fp=mici has the same result.
stângaci {{ro-adj}} No parameters are needed, even though the adjective has an unusual ending.
biet {{ro-adj|f=biată|fp=biete}} The feminine singular has a stem change, but the feminine plural does not. Because the feminine plural is generated from the feminine singular, the correct form needs to be specified manually.
gri {{ro-adj|inv}} Invariable adjective.
viteaz {{ro-adj|fp=viteze|mp=viteji}} The uncommon z-j consonant change must be specified manually.
