This template generates a usage note for Latin nouns and adjectives used predominantly or exclusively as taxonomic epithets. Such terms are used only in certain inflections:
- the nominative singular (uninflected form) of nouns;
- the genitive singular of nouns;
- the nominative masculine, feminine or neuter singular of adjectives, normally agreeing with the gender of the genus (but naming mistakes are common, since most scientists no longer learn Latin).
