Quick guide

[edit]

If the term has countable senses, the template can indicate whether the term is sometimes or always countable:

{{en-proper noun|s}}
{{en-proper noun|s|-}}
{{en-proper noun|~|es}}
{{en-proper noun|~|...}}

If the term is plural-only (plurale tantum): indicate as follows:

{{en-proper noun|p}}

Pluralization

[edit]

If the proper noun is uncountable, no parameters are necessary.

If the proper noun is countable and forms its plural by adding -s or -es), specify that suffix; e.g., on "Alex":

{{en-proper noun|es}}
Alex (plural Alexes)

Singular
Alex

Plural
Alexes

If the noun has an irregular plural, specify it; e.g., on "Superman":

{{en-proper noun|Supermen}}
Superman (plural Supermen)

Singular
Superman

Plural
Supermen

If the proper noun is both countable and uncountable, depending on use, use "~" followed by the plural parameter; e.g., on "America":

{{en-proper noun|~|s}}
America (countable and uncountable; plural Americas)

Singular
America

Plural
(countable and uncountable) Americas

If the proper noun is has multiple plural forms, use additional positional parameters; e.g., on "Cathy":

{{en-proper noun|Cathys|Cathies}}
Cathy (plural Cathys or Cathies)

Singular
Cathy

Plural
Cathys or Cathies

Extended guide

[edit]

This template works exactly like {{en-noun}} except for defaulting to having no plural (i.e. uncountable) and adding the term to Category:English proper nouns instead of Category:English nouns. All of the options documented for {{en-noun}} also apply to {{en-proper noun}}. See {{en-noun}} for more information.
