Usage

[edit]

This template may be used to generate the word circa (about, approximately) or its abbreviation c. before a date. A link to the explanation of the word at Appendix:Glossary is provided.

The template is useful inside quotation templates such as {{quote-book}}, where the use of {{circa}} would cause formatting problems.

Parameters

[edit]

The template takes two parameters:

  • |1=mandatory: a year, span of years, century, or other date.
  • |short= – use |short=1 or |short=yes to abbreviate the word circa to c.

Examples

[edit]
  • Wikitext: {{circa2|1955–1956|short=yes}} (use an en dash to separate the starting and ending years)
  • Result: c. 1955–1956
  • Wikitext: {{circa2|15th century|short=yes}}
