This template should be used to decline all Belarusian adjectives.

Usage

[edit]

Generally, a single argument is supplied to the template, normally just consisting of an adjective lemma, i.e. the nominative masculine singular form. Multisyllabic adjectives (which is almost all of them) are required to have an acute accent indicating the stress. For example, for the adjective сі́ні (síni, deep blue):

{{be-adecl|сі́ні}}

produces

The module automatically knows how to decline hard, soft and possessive adjectives, including those where the ending is stressed and those in -кі.

Indicators

[edit]

Indicators can be specified inside of angle brackets to modify the default declension behavior. Currently, the only indicator is surname, which does two things:

  1. It removes the neuter forms from the table.
  2. If applied to a possessive-form adjective (e.g. Івано́ў (Ivanóŭ), Сцяпа́шын (Scjapášyn)), it changes the declension as is correct for surnames of this form.
{{be-adecl|Івано́ў<surname>}}

produces

Alternative stresses

[edit]

You can specify alternative lemma forms, which is especially useful for words with multiple possible stress patterns. For example, цяжкі́ (cjažkí, difficult, heavy) can also be stressed as ця́жкі (cjážki). You can indicate this as follows:

{{be-adecl|((цяжкі́,ця́жкі))}}

which produces

You can add indicators in angle brackets after the lemma. Each lemma has its own indicators, so for example if you want to specify a surname declension you should specify <surname> after both lemmas.

Prefixes and suffixes

[edit]

Some adjectives have prefixes or suffixes attached to them. You can include them as follows, e.g. for які́-не́будзь (jakí-njébudzʹ):

{{be-adecl|[[які́]]<>-не́будзь}}

which produces
