This is a relatively recent addition to kana usage to represent the non-native sound vi. As such, this is only found in borrowed words. Many speakers, especially older people, may pronounce this more as bi, [bʲi].

[edit]This is a simple template intended for inclusion in the ====Usage notes==== section of a Japanese kana for non-native sound.
Parameters
[edit]|1=- The Japanese transliteration of the non-native sound.
|2=- The Japanese transliteration of the alternative pronunciation for this sound.
|3=- The IPA representation of the alternative pronunciation for this sound. Brackets are not needed.
|4=(optional)- Another IPA representation of the alternative pronunciation for this sound. Brackets are not needed.
