Usage

This template may be used on Wiktionary entry pages to quote The Book of the New Sun series of novels by Gene Wolfe. Books 1-3 are available as first edition hardcovers and volume 4 as a mass-market paperback online at the Internet Archive:

• The Shadow of the Torturer.
• The Claw of the Conciliator.
• The Sword of the Lictor.
• The Citadel of the Autarch.

Parameters

The template takes the following parameters:

• |1= or |book= – mandatory: the book number in the series in Arabic numerals, as follows:

Book number	Title
1	The Shadow of the Torturer
2	The Claw of the Conciliator
3	The Sword of the Lictor
4	The Citadel of the Autarch

• |2= or |chapter= – the name of the chapter quoted from.
• |3= or |page=, or |pages= – the page number(s) quoted from. When quoting a range of pages, separate the first and last pages of the range with an en dash, like this: |pages=110–111.
• |4= or |passage= – a passage to be quoted from the work.
• |brackets= – use |brackets=on to surround a quotation with brackets. This indicates that the quotation either contains a mere mention of a term (for example, "some people find the word manoeuvre hard to spell") rather than an actual use of it (for example, "we need to manoeuvre carefully to avoid causing upset"), or does not provide an actual instance of a term but provides information about related terms.
